Actually some good points are made here by Fr. Imbarrato. It’s almost as if there’s a reactionary Right industry going on that already has their minds made up no matter what the Pope does or says.

I’m pretty conservative and critical of the Pope at times, but don’t like being played by professional critics that preach to the choir for YouTube clicks…while laughing all the way to the bank at the expense of truth.

There has to be some time for reflection and authentic critique of what the Pope wrote rather than just tossed-off, pre-packaged comments made to feed a hypercritical and often, though not always, insubordinate narrative.

This video reminds me check my own critical impulses and to observe a little closer rather than reacting on the spur of the moment. The problem is, the Conservatives have been so beaten down psycho-spiritually so often, they tend to act reflexively out of a sense of self-preservation rather than charitably, for seeing the bigger picture, longer time horizon and greater good. But can you fault them for feeling and acting this way?

Can you blame the abused spouse for flinching when it looks like the hand is coming up again to deliver another psycho-spiritual blow to the moral conscience?
