This, to me, would be an indication of his authenticity as a moral force for Russia. That is, his moral posturing is not a ruse to unite Russia in an ethical crusade (like Stalin appealed to the idea of “Holy Mother Russia” when fighting the Nazis) against the West as a cover for the revival of the Soviet Union (a la, KGB Major Anatoly Golytsyn’s assertion in “New Lies for Old” that Perestroika and Glasnost were long term deceptions in the rebirth of a Russian/communist empire to get the West to lower its defenses).
