A Clockwork Carlson — The Culling of Tucker: Starring Victor Davis Hanson as Victor Davis Hanson: [Videos + Soundtrack]
Tucker, This is Victor Davis Hanson. Uncle Vic. Tucker We’re Concerned about You. Your Anti-Zionism Has Become Pathological. People are Noticing. There’s Something Wrong. Tucker It’s OK. Shhh. Everything is Going to Be Alright. You’re Ill. Tucker We Love You. Tucker We’re Only Here to Help…Tucker the Whole Fox Crew, Your Friends, Your Family… Tucker We Love and Care about You. Everyone But You Can See This. You’ve Been Under a Lot of Stress. We Understand. Trust Us. Tucker We’re Staging an Intervention; It’s for Your Own Good and the Good of the Nation. Tucker, It’s a National Security Issue Now…
Tucker in a few minutes you’ll hear the doorbell ring. You’ll hear a knock at the door. It’s OK. We have a signed order from a judge. It’s all legal. We only want to help you. Tucker you will see four men in white coats, they’re only there to help you.
Tucker they’re going to give you a shot to calm you down. Everything will be OK. You will feel very relaxed, very warm. Tucker they’re going to put you on a stretcher and take you by ambulance to a safe, friendly place. You’ll be warm and comfortable. You’ll get to sleep and rest. People will talk to you. A nurse will be there to talk to you. For your safety they have to strap your arms and legs down. Tucker, it won’t hurt. They’re soft restraints. You’ll feel warm and safe on the ride over…
Tucker they’ll be waiting for you at Bellevue. Bellevue state hospital. You’ll get your own room. You’ll get to watch old historical movies of Germany from World War II Tucker. You need to see the realities of the past to come to grips with the present and the logic of world development. Tucker your nurse will attend to your needs in a very compassionate and caring way.
Tucker they’ll wake you up and take you to the garden Tucker. There you can see the pretty colored flowers and butterflies. Your chaperone will help you with things. We only want to help you Tucker. They’ll sometimes wake you up in the middle of the night to take your medicine and to talk to you about things. About current events…about people like Nick Fuentes, Megyn Kelly and Candace Owens…about what Charlie Kirk said about Israel at the end of his life…
Jonathan Greenblatt from the ADL, and your old friends Ben Shapiro and Mark Levin will be there. Tucker we all care about you. The head of the program Dr. Greenbaum will be there… You’ll get to take your medicine and you will feel good. You will feel whole and integrated again. You’ll learn the power of forgetting and the freedom of unknowing. Tucker, you’ll get to watch puppet shows and cartoons on how to think and fit into the world. The new world. The new order of things Tucker. Your hatred of Zionism and Israel will dissolve into longing for wholeness: into a painful kind of love, the sweetest and saddest kind…
Tucker, as your breakdown progresses and the shell of your consciousness begins to crack, your unconscious will unload–shattering your psyche and your ego wit it. When you emerge from your exodus, your exile from the truth, your cocoon, your Dark Night of the Soul, you will have a new program for happiness. Happiness is easy Tucker!

With the spark of new life you’ll receive a crown. The colors brilliant white, blue, red, purple, green and orange will take on new meaning now. Will suffuse your very being. Like the hands of an inner clockwork: Orange is mother, is restraint. White is Source, is transcendence… At times of stress now you’ll feel very free, very blissful…like a Monarch Butterfly taking flight from your body. You’ll be set free Tucker. You’ll be able to see the truth again, from above your body. You’ll dissociate from your hateful feelings and enter truth, light and love: divine unity, pure being…

Tucker, in the old Soviet Union if you objected against communism they put you into a mental hospital and administered drugs. They thought that if anyone objected to the workers’ paradise of communism they must be crazy. Tucker this is America. Surely you can’t believe with the fascists and Nazis against Zionist Israel. They are the chosen people Tucker. The elect. Sanctified by God. It’s in the Bible. Who blesses Israel is blessed, who curses Israel is cursed. Ted Cruz and Mike Huckabee tried to tell you. But you refused to listen. The state of Israel is the march of God through history Tucker. It’s a Divine Manifest Destiny in the Zionist Imagination actualized: from immanence to transcendence! It is Logos incarnate! The truth revealed in time and space. This is the Messianic Age Tucker. No price is too high to pay. We only want to save your soul…
Rupert Murdoch, your old friend from Fox, has promised you’ll have a job at Fox News waiting for you when your treatment is over. You can make desserts and happy meals and sandwiches in the cafeteria. All your old friends will stop by to see you and have lunch: Hannity, Watters, Ingraham… All of them! Everything will be back to normal just like it used to be…
I think the men have arrived at your house now. They’re in the driveway. You’ll hear the knock in a minute. You don’t need to bring any clothes. You’ll receive a gown with your intravenous medicine at Bellevue. Just relax and step onto the stretcher and lay down. Lay your head down and go to sleep…
Behold the reprogramming of Tucker Carlson to love Zionism and the secular state of Israel…or else!
_____
Tucker, this is Victor Davis Hanson. You’ll be alright. Come with us…don’t protest. Please, let us lead you back to truth, sanity and salvation.
There seems to be a trend, and I’ve seen this on a few videos about Tucker, of putting Nazi symbolism next to him when that couldn’t be further from the truth. The ADL, likewise, called Charlie Kirk a “dangerous anti-Semite.”
Mark Levin and others keep painting Tucker as a fascist/Nazi. They are using the same language of the extremist, ANTIFA Left. in effect, they are acting as spotters and targeters for the extreme Left. Tucker was already run out of Washington by the Left lunatics. We don’t need Dinesh D’Sousa saying the Right should run Tucker out of town.
It’s interesting how VD Hanson has no criticism of the “Kosher Right” for painting swastikas on Tucker; thereby, putting his life in danger.
Victor, do you disavow the use of Nazi symbolism painted on your critics, like Tucker, when people use your interviews to push their point of view? A picture is worth a thousand words: you pointing at tucker as the Nazi flag flies over his head is as good as an endorsement of his condemnation as such as there is.
Victor, disavow your videos being used to push Tucker as a Nazi you moral and spiritual imbecile!

Perhaps the Messianic quest to to wipe out Amalek in all of its perceived forms is pathological, psychopathic…and even Satanic?
What smacks of authenticity in the assertions in the video above is that in the book of Genesis, Eve was created from Adam’s rib. The purported attempt to make a non-binary, androgynous human from male cells only smacks of moral inversion (Luciferian Twist) of the Genesis story of creation. And that men actually can be as God if they eat of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil (via technological progress). Hence, Transgenderism (hyper, atomistic individualism: there are 70 genders, etc.) to > Transhumanism to > Post Humanism and the “Singularity” or “Omega Point” via technology.
Allusions to the Trinity: This video demonstrates that the first man Adam (singular) was referred to plurally as “them” in the Bible. He was not “non-binary,” gender neutral or an androgyne as some occultists would have us believe. Eve was created from Adam’s rib but both of them together were referred to in the singular as Adam.
In their duality (male and female) they reflected the image of the triune nature of God. Namely, three personalities, one God: God the Father is not the Son or Holy Spirit, but is God > God the Son is not the Father or Holy Spirit but is God > God the Holy Spirit is not the Son or Father, but is God. One God, three persons.
The notion of a non-binary or androgyne person is nihilistic and an effacement of the sacred image of God in which we were created. The Transhumanist anti-human priests of the technological temple (“The Cathedral”) need people to accept this effacement willingly – as a form of human self-sacrifice – so they can move beyond the merely human and transhuman, to the post-human world of AI super-intelligent machine beings…

The Globalist Elites’ attempt to make a new Garden of Eden on earth via the technological Luciferian fascism of guided evolution (bizarre scientific medical experiments & new chimeric lifeforms) is the worst form of Messianic Utopianism.
The works of Stanley Kubrick: “A Clockwork Orange,” “2001: A Space Odyssey” and “Eyes Wide Shut” may be alluding, among other things, to this guided evolutionary process of the technocratic elites known as the “Lucifer Principle,” as well as other veiled, occult themes.

_____
Consider this: To the Israel Firsters, like Mark Levin and Ben Shapiro, Israel First IS America First. Therefore, if America fights wars on the behalf of (that ultimately benefit) Israel to wipe out any version of “Amalek” they see fit, both foreign and domestic, (including a culture war against Tucker Carlson, Nick Fuentes, Candace Owens and others) then America is doing God’s work of Tikkun Olam (תיקון עולם) [a Hebrew phrase that means “repairing the world” or “perfecting the world].
If, as the Rand study postulates, the Long War (perpetual war for perpetual peace) is an “epic struggle” against anti-Western forces, and the West begins at Israel, then a natural consequence (really it’s an ongoing “Conflict,” since, according to the Operational Continuum and professor Carrol Quigley, “War” is total and severe [endemic/annihilative]) America’s commitment (manpower, resources [blood and treasure]) will be harnessed and exploited – like an Ox, donkey or cattle – for the aims of a foreign country (Greater Israel Project?).
This is a dangerous moral, social, economic and military conflation and relation between two entirely different nations, especially when it contains a metaphysical/religious component. Religious wars on behalf of another nation (especially when the religion is different and Messianic [in the case of Judaism, incomplete since it rejects the completion afforded by the New Testament]) are different than wars of national liberation (to spread democracy, communism, fascism, etc.) or homeland defense.
Dual loyalty contradicts the Bible’s admonition that you can’t serve two masters. Really, it’s schizophrenic. Couple that with the potential Borderline Personality Disorder (See my “Opinion and Analysis” link on the first page) of the Zionist and Christian Zionist minds and you’ve got a psycho-theological, psycho-political recipe for disaster! We’ve seen the state as the march of God through history before and it doesn’t end well. God is above the state (transcendent) not in, of and through the state (immanent). Secular Nation states tend to act immanentest. Our Constitution recognizes rights come from God, not the state so the state must submit itself to something higher than itself, which is God.
This is the basis of all mental health, from the state level down to the personal level. Submission of one’s will to something higher than one’s self (love, truth, friendship, liberty, morals, laws of the land and consideration for others by peaceful conduct). Lucifer said to God, I will not submit my will to you. “I will not serve!” and was thrown out of Heaven.
For some; therefore, no price is too high to pay in terms of American blood and treasure for the greater glory of Israel because America is doing the work of God. Indeed, is blessing Israel and will be blessed in return for doing so, as Ted Cruz and Mike Huckabee believe the Bible says. They’ve certainly been blessed with an overabundance of Israel First contributions to their political campaigns. That we do know.
How has that worked out so far in terms of blood, treasure and loss of national prestige and good will? Seems like more of a curse than a blessing. The perils of taking the Bible out of context is a whole other discussion. I won’t even get into Catholic hating, “Meatball with Legs” Pastor Hagee and his delusional theological and world views. And this is one of my objections to the errant theology of Christian Zionism (and identity politics in general), as opposed to the authentic Christian doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church (inclusive, universal, gospel of love and individual [vs. collective] redemption and salvation).
If you couple the military’s “Operational Continuum” doctrine of perpetual war that makes disease, conflict, terrorism, economic collapse, revolution, “Climate Change” and whatever other national security threats they can cook up – say, even a Donald Trump Administration that rejects the notion of long war – with a metaphysical belief system like Israel First and the perpetual quest to wipe out all versions of “Amalek” as a moral manifest destiny (pathological hypervigilance, really), we could be on a real collision course in our attempt to have America doing “God’s work” anywhere and any time (Israel wants). Talk about a recipe for disaster.
_____
So, perhaps instead of “The Jewish Revolutionary Spirit,” E. Michael Jones should have titled his book “The Jewish Collective Spirit,” or “The Jewish Utopian Spirit?” Since, before the revolutionary impulse, is the collective, utopian ideal: Heaven on earth: an earthly, rather than a heavenly, Jerusalem. In other words, temporal, Messianic idealization. But it’s not limited to Jews. Even the American Dream can be pushed to extremes. You can pursue a 4th, 5th, and 6th Reich in the quest for the perfect slice of French Toast. As long as you can get the masses of asses to go along with the program, I’m sure there’s enough greedy politicians that would push for it.
I believe Israel should be supported but in a reasonable way that does not play into a misguided Messianic quest. One that does not manipulate our own political system towards aims that may not be in America’s best interest. America First doesn’t always mean America only…but it can if things get too out of balance. At least for a while. Israel needs to stop it’s hyper-vigilant quest to control America’s free speech, loyalty to Christianity and fear of reasonable nationalism. Especially more Liberal Jews. We can work together, even if organizations like AIPAC must register as foreign agents and dual citizens are forbidden from serving in American political position.
Israel needs to show good faith and truth by accepting that dual citizen politicians are not in America’s best interest. In this way they submit their will to the superior power, influence and civic morality of a traditional America.
The twin footprints of God in time are Judaism and Christianity, but it is Christianity that must responsibly guide them by the hand through their current hyper-vigilant/militant posture in the Middle East and “fight or flight” panic to survive. Lest they pull us under and we both drown.
The quest to liquidate Amalek in the name of Tikkun Olam for the blessings incurred could lead America to the breaking point and eventual dissolution and collapse. It’s a moral, spiritual, social and economic catastrophe waiting to happen. It is not an event, it is a process. It doesn’t need to be a “conspiracy” or a plan. It’s a recurring theme in history in the evolution and de-evolution (for lack of a better word) of civilizations. Think of the collapse of ancient Rome and the lessons learned.
Some on the more esoteric side believe the invasion and dissolution of the West was foretold and has a name. And that name is “The Great Social Cataclysm.”
Here’s a supposed quote from Luciferian Albert Pike:
We shall unleash the Nihilists and the atheists, and we shall provoke a formidable social cataclysm which in all its horror will show clearly to the nations the effect of absolute atheism, origin of savagery and of the most bloody turmoil.
Then everywhere, the citizens, obliged to defend themselves against the world minority of
revolutionaries, will exterminate those destroyers of civilization, and the multitude, disillusioned
with Christianity, whose deistic spirits will from that moment be without compass or direction,
anxious for an ideal, but without knowing where to render its adoration, will receive the true light
through the universal manifestation of the pure doctrine of Lucifer, brought finally out in the public
view.
This manifestation will result from the general reactionary movement which will follow the
destruction of Christianity and atheism, both conquered and exterminated at the same time.”
If Luciferianism is naturalism. And a purely naturalistic (materialist) world view is leading the world from Transgenderism to Transhumanism to Post Humanism – as Alexander Dugin suggests – then the pure doctrine of Lucifer is in the process of being “brought out in the public view” as you read this. This may be an indication of where we are in the process of managed decline (their words not mine) – that they are confident enough in their progress and common cause, to actually bring Luciferianism out into public view as a good and natural (no pun intended) thing.
The elites in organizations such as the World Economic Forum and United Nations have been working towards a New Order for quite a while. This analysis is merely lifting the veil, pointing the finger and naming the disease. Because it is a disease…of the spirit.
_____
If we view the Great Social Cataclysm as a process (not an event) that is going on now, worldwide, with the invasion of all Western democracies with millions of foreigners – The UK is on the brink of civil war due to loss of civil liberties in their quest to appease the radical Muslim invaders, while France and Germany are besieged – then perhaps it’s time for the forces of Roman Catholic and Orthodox Christianity to reassert the moral imperative of Western Civilization in a manner of a soft Crusade.

Given the words of Alexander Dugin, Putin’s Geo-strategist, this is what (Holy Mother, Orthodox Christian) Russia may just be doing in its war against Ukraine’s Marxist/Globalist Color Revolution on its borders. A possible real holy war against the decadence of the West and the Transhumanist, Post Humanist World Order encroaching on its national sovereignty may be Russia’s current geo-political, existential quest.
As a potential US national civil war is increasingly being talked about, and not just in fringe circles, politicians on the Left are encouraging soldiers to disobey Trump’s orders. Meanwhile, savage, nihilistic groups like ANTIFA and BLM are gearing up for potential violence, uprising and revolution. They’re just waiting for the right command or succession of events to kick it off (again).
Reasonable people on the Right and even moderates on the Left need to be thinking in terms of self, community and national preservation. That we’re in a “dry,” cultural civil goes without saying… When it goes “wet” (bloody) is anyone’s guess…
I certainly hope it doesn’t happen. And I’m not predicting it (I don’t make predictions). Stuff sometimes just seems to happen…
What is the solution? Well, containment worked against the Soviet Union when the “Domino Theory” of world communism on the march was applied to at least slow the march of worldwide communism. We should contain the flow of illegal aliens into America while vetting and expelling those that are here, work with the diplomatic corps of the Catholic Church to formulate a plan to contain crusading Islam into the West (like Pope John Paul II worked with the US to bring down communism in Poland and the East Block.) while working to weaken Red China economically and militarily.
Perhaps once the Russia/Ukraine War ends or at least reaches an armistice, we can work with them on some cultural exchanges to build good will while discussing the preservation of traditional civilization in the face of the Globalist, technetronic, Transhumanist onslaught (in the name of Liberal Democracy) that has made its way from institutions: think tanks, NGOs, (including secret societies/social clubs [really they are private intelligence networks] like Skull and Bones and Bohemian Grove and into the halls of American power.
Start there. Put on your thinking caps…

Alexander Dugin is Vladimir Putin’s #1 Geo-strategist. He says the post-modern (nihilistic) [Pre-modern is faith based, modern is science based] world the technocratic elites are building is Satanic (really Luciferian: That is, purely naturalistic without regard to the authentic supernatural. Remember, the angelic and occult/demonic realm is preternatural not supernatural [hear Malachi Martin’s explanation in the video below] and excludes God and traditional/Orthodox Christianity from its halls of power and decision making).
That decisions on global issues effecting every man, woman and child are being made via purely utilitarian (cost benefit analysis applied to people), secular-humanistic-atheistic thinking and are trending socially towards Transgenderism [androgynous/non-binary] to Transhumanism to Post-Humanism.
The Devil is non-binary and androgynous.

Fr. Malachi Martin (three PhDs) foremost exorcist and author of “Hostage to the Devil”, translator of the Dead Sea Scrolls, advisor to three popes alludes to the possible existence of the Nazi’s “Greenbaum Programming” mind control efforts that utilized traumatic shock to the psyche while employing Kabbalistic symbolism. One of the main goals, supposedly, was to create assassins – Manchurian Candidates – who could kill and forget. The Nazis were fascinated with occult practices and symbolism and were ultimately genocidally Satanic. Hitler was obviously demonically possessed.
Fr. Martin touches on the Army’s Psychic Remote Viewing spy program and demonic interference: that is, the source of the Non-Local RV (Remote Viewing) Signal is indeed Luciferian in nature (preternatural) and not merely a product of the psyche or collective conscious or unconscious (mono-psychism). The Devil and fallen angels are created beings, preternatural spirits. God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit is a supernatural, uncreated being.
Dabbling in the RV occult system can lead to a mental breakdown and possible demonic possession. General Stubblebine, commander of the Army’s Intelligence and Security Command [INSCOM] (my old First Sergeant from Ft. Bragg became the Command Sergeant Major of INSCOM in the 1990s) did indeed become obsessed with Remote Viewing and had a mental breakdown, resulting in the relieving of his command. Also, some Airforce personnel that were doing similar explorations sought out Malachi Martin for consultation after one of the airmen started exhibiting signs of demonic possession.
_____
_____
_____
When father Martin Says “a Familiar,” he means a familiar demonic spirit (fallen angel) that has attached itself to the Remote Viewer by an act of will: that is, opening up his spirit and psyche to the input (Non-Local RV Signal) of the demon by way of thought transference. Think about it. If the Devil and fallen angels can tempt you to sin by suggesting sinful things in your mind – using thought transference (preternatural, psychic suggestions) – when you actively invite and tune into that signal through an act of will (interior disposition) the demon will give you all the information you want…but mix it with false and misleading information to get you to turn away from the truth and God. In effect, Remote Viewing is an occult phenomenon. One done for reasons of personal power and not out of love and the greater glory of God. The Devil’s bargain is that you get the power, money, fame, sex…but lose your soul.
This is the sound…

Note: Traditional Catholic mystical prayer (Apophatic Mysticism) can result in extraordinary phenomena: Visions, prophetic dreams, synchronicities, etc. These are not to be sought after and are byproducts, sparks if you will, of contemplative practices allowed by God at his discretion. These sometimes can be viewed as symbols of the Signified Will of God, albeit personal ones. Their varieties are many.
If they externalize and are recognized trans-personally, they probably have additional meaning for the community at large. Not always just for the contemplative or mystic… Also, they are not an indication of holiness. Although a layperson practicing contemplation may sin or be in sin, the sin is an impediment to prayer but not a barrier. That is, he or she may get thrown out of one of the hierarchical mansions of St. Teresa’s Interior Castle and have to go to confession and reconcile with God before climbing the ladder of prayer towards Divine Union with God again…
Christian mystical prayer can facilitate The “Unloading of the Unconscious” or Dark Night of the Soul and may resemble or constitute a purposeful “nervous breakdown.” It depends on the psychology of the particular person. In the words of Fr. Thomas Keating, master of mystical prayer, it is God’s divine psychotherapy. The unloading of the unconscious traumas of a lifetime into the consciousness can be extreme and even dissociative. Love is merely making room in the spirit, psyche and heart for God–and all the excess, cluttering junk furniture has to be thrown out.
Visions, prophetic dreams and synchronicities can happen as the psyche is freed of all the weighty, oppressive emotional baggage of a lifetime… You may feel light as a Monarch butterfly! Yes. It is very painful and needs to be offset with charitable works. Your psychological landscape will be forever altered…
Christian mystical prayer is the opposite of occult, trauma-based programming, which is abusive and dissociative: an inversion of love, via hate. It is love-based deprogramming and ultimately therapeutic. An anti-hypnosis of life, if you will… Unitive in nature not dissipative. God’s divine psychotherapy.

The movie “The Manchurian Candidate” showed how the Soviets/Communist N. Koreans could use brainwashing to get soldiers to kill each other (and create sleeper assassins) via meta levels of perception, conditioning them through the use of marijuana (a hallucinogen) into hypnotic states and post hypnotic suggestions – into thinking they were merely watching a lecture on flowers and following natural commands–and not operating on orders to kill.

When I see major Neocon, “Kosher Right,” radical Zionist figures – like Mark Levin and Ben Shapiro – and their media camp followers painting targets (swastikas) on public conservative figures like Candace Owens, Charlie Kirk (Before his death the Jewish ADL painted him as a dangerous anti Semite), Tucker Carlson and (fringy & wacky but often on accurate) Nick Fuentes by calling them fascists and Nazis…I can only hope that whacked-out or drugged-out (or doped up on sex change hormones) ANTIFA (Anti Fascist, but really communist) operatives and other violent, militant Leftist radicals (of the sort that assassinated Charlie Kirk) don’t become little Manchurian Candidates operating off the targeting and programming efforts (deliberate or otherwise) of these fulminating media agitators…

Who He Was
- Born: 1885
- Died: 1972
- Nationality: American, spent most of his life in Europe
- Role in Modernism: One of the central architects of early 20th-century modernist poetry.
Literary Importance

- Major works include:
- The Cantos (his lifelong, unfinished epic)
- Personae
- Cathay (translations/adaptations from classical Chinese poetry)
- “In a Station of the Metro” (famous haiku-like imagist poem)
Controversy

Ezra Pound’s stay at St. Elizabeths Hospital (Washington, D.C.) is one of the most dramatic and debated episodes in American literary history. Here’s a clear, thorough account:
Ezra Pound’s Mental Hospital Stay (1946–1958)
Why He Was There
After WWII, Pound was arrested in Italy for making radio broadcasts supporting Mussolini and expressing antisemitic views. The U.S. charged him with treason.
In 1946, instead of going to trial—where he likely would have been convicted—he was declared mentally unfit to stand trial. This ruling sent him to St. Elizabeths Hospital for the Insane, the federal psychiatric institution in Washington, D.C.
Many have argued:
- The “insanity” verdict was politically convenient.
- Pound was eccentric and ideologically extreme but not psychotic.
- It was a way to avoid the spectacle and ethical problem of trying a famous poet for treason.
Life Inside St. Elizabeths
1. Conditions
Pound was kept in a special ward, not with the general criminal population.
He had:
- A private room
- Ability to receive visitors
- Books and writing materials
- Access to gardens and grounds
He lived more like a strange, cloistered intellectual than a typical psychiatric patient.
2. Literary Activity
Pound was far from silent:
- He edited and published The Pisan Cantos, which won the Bollingen Prize (1949) while he was confined—an enormous controversy.
- He translated Confucian texts, wrote essays, and produced new Cantos.
- His room became a kind of salon, attracting writers, academics, and political admirers.
Visitors included:
- T.S. Eliot
- Robert Lowell
- Charles Olson
- Allen Ginsberg
- Even political extremists attracted by his conspiracy theories
3. Behavior & Mental State
Pound’s mental condition is still debated:
- He was articulate, witty, and intellectually sharp.
- Yet he remained obsessed with economic conspiracy theories, antisemitic ideas, and fascist ideology.
- Some psychiatrists said he had a “personality disorder,” not psychosis.
- Others thought the insanity ruling was simply a legal maneuver to save him from a treason trial.
He often referred to St. Elizabeths as “the bughouse” but sometimes joked affectionately about the place.
Release (1958)
After 12 years, supporters—especially poet and lawyer Archibald MacLeish—successfully petitioned for his release.
A judge concluded he was no longer mentally unfit and dropped the treason charges.
Upon leaving, Pound made the infamous gesture:
He gave the fascist salute to reporters before boarding a ship back to Italy.
After St. Elizabeths
Living mostly in Italy, Pound grew increasingly silent during his final years. He expressed some remorse about his life’s failures but never clearly renounced his politics.
If you want, I can also cover:
- Whether he was actually mentally ill
- How St. Elizabeths shaped The Cantos

Here is a vivid, researched picture of what Ezra Pound’s daily life was actually like on the Chestnut Ward of St. Elizabeths, based on accounts from visitors, staff, and Pound himself.
Daily Life for Ezra Pound at St. Elizabeths
1. His Room and Surroundings
Pound lived in Chestnut Ward, reserved for “VIP” or low-risk patients. It was quieter, cleaner, and more private than the main hospital wings.
His room:
- Small but private
- Filled with books, manuscripts, dictionaries, and notebooks
- Often cluttered like a scholar’s office
- A little table for writing
- Windows overlooking lawns and trees
Visitors describe it as a mix between a monk’s cell and a messy library.
2. His Daily Routine (Reconstructed)
Morning
- Woke early—he kept poet’s hours even in confinement.
- Made his bed meticulously; he was orderly by temperament.
- Read or revised Cantos drafts before breakfast.
- Walked the grounds (he was allowed supervised freedom on the lawns and gardens).
Breakfast
- Ate in the ward dining room with other patients.
- He often complained about institutional food, but sometimes joked about it.
- Known to lecture fellow patients about economics or Confucian ethics over oatmeal.
Midday
This was the most active part of his day.
- Visitors arrived (almost daily): poets, professors, political cranks, journalists.
- Pound held court like a quirky intellectual monarch.
- He would expound on Confucius, usury, Chinese ideograms, or opera.
- Sometimes he translated while people watched.
He also corresponded constantly:
- Hundreds of letters each year
- Sometimes dictating to visitors who acted as secretaries
- He edited manuscripts sent to him by aspiring writers
For him, the ward became something like a literary salon or a study hall.
Afternoon
- Long stretches of reading (Greek classics, Confucius, Fenollosa, Dante, economics).
- Wrote and revised The Cantos, especially the late ones that show confinement’s influence.
- Interacted with other patients—sometimes with kindness, often with impatience.
- Occasionally participated in occupational therapy or hospital routines, though often excused.
He disliked group therapy and resisted any psychiatric interpretation of himself.
3. Behavioral Notes
Pound was:
- Energetic, theatrical, imperious
- Courteous to some, dismissive to others
- Enthusiastic about teaching (especially Confucianism)
- Stubbornly ideological
- Sometimes humorous about his own situation (“the bughouse”)
- Often intellectually brilliant but fixated on conspiratorial economic theories
Staff often noted his lack of psychosis: he was eccentric, obsessive, and politically extreme—but coherent.
4. Evening
- Read until lights-out.
- Sometimes paced the corridor, composing lines aloud.
- Occasionally wrote long, restless letters before bed.
- Slept lightly; he complained the ward was noisy at night.
5. Social Atmosphere
Chestnut Ward wasn’t chaotic like the hospital’s main sections.
It was:
- Relatively quiet
- Populated by patients considered safe or stable
- A place where Pound could hold conversations at length
Still, he was surrounded by people with genuine severe mental illnesses, which occasionally disturbed or frustrated him.
Visitors often remarked on the surreal contrast:
“A world-class poet editing the Cantos in a mental hospital.”
6. How Pound Viewed His Confinement
He alternated between:
- Bitter resentment (“the government’s cage”)
- Amused detachment (“my involuntary retirement”)
- Stoic acceptance (“I must make use of the time”)
He believed he had become a sort of Confucian hermit-scholar, unjustly exiled but using solitude to refine his work.
7. Impact on His Poetry
The Pisan Cantos—for which he won the Bollingen Prize—were shaped partly by the trauma before the hospital (especially his cage confinement in Pisa).
At St. Elizabeths:
- His late Cantos became more fragmented
- More introspective
- More haunted by guilt, failure, and spiritual fatigue
If you’d like, I can also describe:
- What his visitors reported in detail
- How other patients interacted with him
- His relationships with staff and psychiatrists
- The specific daily schedule imposed by the ward

His relationships with staff and psychiatrists
ChatGPT said:
Ezra Pound’s relationships with staff and psychiatrists at St. Elizabeths were unusually complex—at times warm, at times combative, and often shaped by the peculiar fact that he was both a famous poet and a federal treason detainee.
Here’s a clear, accurate portrait of how he interacted with the people responsible for his care.
1. Relationship With Psychiatrists
Mostly Respectful—but Manipulative and Resistant
Pound generally treated psychiatrists with outward politeness, but:
- He did not believe he was mentally ill.
- He rejected psychiatric explanations for behavior.
- He saw psychoanalysis as pseudoscience.
- He tried to control the narrative of how he was perceived.
He often responded to psychological questions with:
- Lectures on Confucius
- Economic theories
- Etymological digressions
- Poetry recitations
This made evaluation nearly impossible—sometimes intentionally so.
2. The Central Psychiatrist: Dr. Winfred Overholser
Dr. Overholser, superintendent of St. Elizabeths, played the biggest role in Pound’s fate.
Their relationship was:
Protective
Overholser shielded Pound from:
- A treason trial
- Harsher wards
- Interference from government officials
- Excessive press or extremist visitors
Some contemporaries argue Overholser’s ruling of “insanity” was partly a convenient legal solution to avoid trying an American cultural figure for treason.
Gentle but Frustrated
Overholser found Pound:
- Highly intelligent
- Nonviolent
- Incapable of genuine psychiatric treatment
- Stubborn and ideologically frozen
He once described Pound as having a “psychopathic personality”—not insane, but rigid, narcissistic, and unyielding.
3. How Pound Manipulated Psychiatric Evaluations
Pound had a brilliant instinct for:
- Playing the eccentric poet
- Offering cryptic, evasive, or theatrical answers
- Quoting Confucius instead of responding
- Turning interviews into philosophical monologues
Some visitors believed Pound performed madness just enough to avoid trial.
4. Relationship With Nurses and Ward Staff
This was much warmer and more humane.
Affectionate and Courteous
Many nurses liked him:
- He was polite, witty, and charming.
- He greeted staff in multiple languages.
- He read aloud to nurses or explained poetry if they asked.
He could be grumpy, but he rarely erupted.
Staff Noticed His Stability
Nurses consistently remarked that:
- He showed no hallucinations or delusions (beyond ideological obsessions).
- He was rational, orderly, and self-controlled.
- He helped calm other patients.
- He was more teacher than patient.
He would sometimes take it upon himself to mentor or calm distressed patients—sometimes effectively, sometimes arrogantly.
5. How Staff Reacted to His Politics
The nurses generally ignored his political views.
Psychiatrists considered his:
- Fascism
- Antisemitism
- Economic conspiracy theories
…to be symptomatic of rigid ideological fixation, but not signs of psychosis. More like an extreme personality style.
Many staff privately thought:
“He doesn’t belong in a hospital, but at least he’s safe here.”
6. Tension Points
Pound’s relationships were not always smooth.
He refused therapy.
He said:
“I do not recognize your categories.”
He belittled psychiatry.
He called it:
- “Quackery”
- “Mind-muddling”
- “A new priesthood”
He complained about confinement.
He often told staff he was held for political reasons, not medical ones.
He sometimes treated psychiatrists as ideological opponents.
Especially when they tried to address his antisemitism or fascism.
7. Later Years: Mutual Fatigue
By the 1950s:
- Psychiatrists realized Pound would never change his views.
- Pound realized they would not declare him sane.
- His interviews became perfunctory.
- Many doctors quietly recommended release.
Overholser softened over time and no longer saw the confinement as necessary.
In Summary
Psychiatrists
- Respectful, but exasperated.
- Saw him as ideologically extreme, not psychotic.
- Eventually believed he should be released.
Nurses and staff
- Generally fond of him.
- Saw him as eccentric but gentle.
- Treated him more like a scholar-in-residence than a dangerous patient.
Pound himself
- Polite but resistant.
- Distrustful of psychiatry.
- Manipulative, theatrical, intellectually intimidating.
- Ultimately felt trapped but not abused.
If you want, I can also describe:
- Specific anecdotes from nurses and visitors
- What psychiatrists wrote in their official evaluations
- How Pound’s antisemitism and fascism were handled inside the hospital
- How he reacted during attempts to diagnose him
- Whether he was actually mentally ill (the scholarly debate)
1. Allen Ginsberg’s Visit (1957)
Ginsberg and Pound met late in Pound’s confinement.
Ginsberg later described Pound as:
- soft-spoken, frail, and unexpectedly humble
- deeply burdened by guilt over his life and politics
- longing for absolution but unable to articulate it
Ginsberg asked Pound directly about his antisemitic broadcasts.
Pound lowered his head and said:
“I have erred. I should have been more careful.”
Ginsberg left shaken, describing the encounter as “sad, tender, almost monastic.”
2. T.S. Eliot’s Visit (1948)
Eliot visited Pound not long before The Pisan Cantos received the Bollingen Prize.
Nurses noted that Pound lit up almost boyishly when Eliot entered the ward.
He immediately began:
- quoting lines of Dante
- shifting into Italian
- teasing Eliot about “too much Anglican reserve”
Eliot, usually formal, reportedly gripped Pound’s hands for a long moment before leaving, visibly moved.
3. Robert Lowell’s Observations
Lowell, who struggled with bipolar disorder and spent time in psychiatric institutions himself, visited several times.
He remarked:
- Pound seemed less mentally ill than many patients
- “as sane as anyone in Washington,” though ideologically obsessive
- “like a professor in some strange monastery”
Nurses recalled Lowell and Pound pacing the ward together, discussing Greek metrics and American politics at top speed.
4. Charles Olson’s Visit
The poet Charles Olson came early in Pound’s confinement.
When Olson tried to talk about The Cantos, Pound waved him off:
“Don’t talk about literature—what’s happening to the republic?”
Olson later wrote that the atmosphere was “half salon, half prison,” with Pound orchestrating discussions like a headmaster.
5. Visitors Used as Secretaries
Pound often handed visitors letters or drafts and said:
“Type this up for me.”
Several young poets recalled being pressed into service:
- editing lines of the Cantos
- taking dictation
- mailing letters to obscure economic theorists
- carrying messages to literary friends
One nurse joked:
“He runs an office out of that room.”
6. With Nurses: His Politeness (and Pedantry)
Multiple nurses reported that Pound:
- stood up when women entered his room
- greeted staff in Italian, French, or Latin
- sometimes corrected their grammar (which annoyed some of them)
One nurse recalled:
“He would bow like an old European gentleman.
Then lecture you about Confucius while you took his pulse.”
They generally found him eccentric but gentle, sometimes amusing.
7. Calming a Distressed Patient
A well-documented anecdote (recounted by staff and repeated in biographies):
A patient on the ward was having a loud, agitated episode.
Pound approached slowly and said softly:
“My dear fellow, you are disturbing the Muses.”
The man quieted almost immediately.
Nurses said this wasn’t unusual—Pound had a calming, professorial effect on other patients.
8. Singing Rigoletto in the Hallway
Several visitors (including Guy Davenport) recalled Pound singing fragments of Italian opera as he walked the corridors.
He especially favored Verdi’s Rigoletto, which he considered perfect for testing acoustics.
Staff were amused; one orderly said:
“He conducts the opera here.
The rest of us are the audience.”
9. The “Confucius Classroom”
A persistent memory among staff is Pound gathering two or three patients and lecturing on:
- the Analects
- Chinese ideograms
- moral order
A nurse said:
“The other patients didn’t always understand him,
but they liked the attention.”
It became so regular that the staff jokingly called that corner of the ward “Pound’s Academy.”
10. His Disarming Charm
A well-known anecdote from a psychiatric interview:
A doctor asked, “Mr. Pound, why do you think you are here?”
Pound replied:
“Because I insist on thinking with my own head.
Dangerous behavior in any century.”
The doctor later said it was the “cleverest evasion” he had ever heard.
If you want, I can continue with:
- Anecdotes involving his wife Dorothy and his longtime companion Olga Rudge
- Stories from hospital staff who opposed his release
- Incidents where Pound’s temper flared
- Accounts from journalists and government officials who visited

Here’s a detailed look at the hospital staff who opposed Ezra Pound’s release from St. Elizabeths, including specific anecdotes and the reasoning behind their objections. This draws from biographies, memoirs, and accounts from staff at the time.
1. Context of the Opposition
By the 1950s, Pound had spent over a decade at St. Elizabeths. Most psychiatrists and administrators had come to the conclusion that:
- He was no longer a threat to himself or others
- He was mentally coherent, if ideologically rigid
However, some staff and lower-level hospital administrators were skeptical about releasing him:
- They worried that he might be politically dangerous because of his fascist sympathies.
- Some believed that his personality traits—narcissism, rigidity, obsessive ideas—made him “unfit for freedom.”
- Others felt that he manipulated the system and might use his liberty to cause public controversy.
2. Dr. Winfred Overholser vs. Staff Tensions
While Overholser, the hospital superintendent, eventually supported release, some staff disagreed:
- A few nurses and aides argued: “Just because he can behave doesn’t mean he’s sane.”
- They saw his eccentricity as a mask for deeper pathology.
- One senior nurse reportedly said: “He may walk out tomorrow and think the world owes him everything. That is dangerous.”
Some staff feared public backlash if Pound returned to Europe or wrote politically inflammatory material.
3. Anecdote: The Staff Vote
There was an informal discussion among ward staff when release was first proposed:
- Nurses, orderlies, and junior doctors were asked for opinions about the feasibility of Pound living independently.
- Several cited his unrepentant fascist beliefs and obsessive intellectual habits.
- One nurse, according to memoirs, said: “He might be brilliant with words, but he has no grounding in the world outside this hospital.”
- Another staffer worried: “He will make enemies again. People still remember what he did in Italy.”
Ultimately, Overholser overruled these objections, using his administrative authority and the legal evaluation that Pound was no longer mentally unfit.
4. Anecdote: Fear of Public Reaction
Some staff feared that releasing Pound would cause a scandal:
- Staff had become accustomed to treating him like a celebrity patient, but outside the hospital, he was infamous.
- A nurse recalled: “We were constantly worried about the press. He’d give interviews that could embarrass the hospital—or the country.”
- Pound himself seemed aware of this concern and reportedly said privately: “Let them worry. I am a poet, not a soldier.”
This anxiety about public reaction slowed the administrative process and contributed to a 12-year confinement.
5. Anecdote: Staff Doubts About Responsibility
Several staff members questioned whether Pound could manage financial and personal independence:
- He had no steady income and had spent years relying on visitors and the hospital’s support.
- One orderly commented: “He can read and write endlessly, but could he pay a rent or make a doctor’s appointment?”
These concerns were practical as well as psychological—they worried about his survival in the outside world.
6. Summary of Staff Concerns
- Political danger: fascist sympathies might reemerge
- Personality pathology: narcissism, obsessive fixations
- Public embarrassment: media scrutiny, potential controversies
- Practical incapacity: doubts about managing daily life outside
- Moral judgment: some thought he had not “repented enough”
Despite all this, the legal system and hospital leadership eventually decided his release was justified.

Here’s a detailed look at Ezra Pound’s reactions to staff opposition at St. Elizabeths, drawn from memoirs, interviews, and biographies:
1. Awareness of the Opposition
Pound was highly perceptive about who supported or opposed his release:
- He knew many nurses and junior staff disliked the idea of him leaving.
- He reportedly smiled knowingly when he overheard staff debating whether he could survive in the outside world.
- He often mocked their fears in a playful, sardonic way, without open confrontation.
A visitor recalled:
“He seemed to enjoy their anxiety almost as a game, as if he were a general watching troops squabble.”
2. Private Remarks to Allies
Pound confided to friends and visitors that he understood the staff’s concerns but considered them irrelevant:
- About the worry that he would stir political controversy, he said:
“Let them fuss. I am a poet, not a politician.”
- He dismissed fears about his independence:
“I can feed myself and walk. That is enough.”
- To some, he framed the opposition as proof of his own brilliance and significance.
3. Witty Defiance
Pound often turned staff opposition into humor:
- When a nurse expressed doubt about his ability to manage outside life, he quipped:
“I’ve survived Mussolini, a cage in Pisa, and twelve years here—what is a little freedom?”
- He used wit as a shield, making it difficult for staff to treat him as a typical “patient” in need of supervision.
4. Strategic Manipulation
Pound was also strategic about opposition:
- He courted supporters among staff, emphasizing his literary genius and contributions to American culture.
- He presented himself as a vulnerable, aging poet rather than a political extremist to sympathetic staff, gaining letters of support.
- Visitors often noted that he understood exactly who could influence decisions and tailored his behavior accordingly.
5. Occasional Confrontation
Though mostly polite, Pound could become forceful when staff tried to lecture him about his behavior or politics:
- If psychiatrists pressed him on his fascist sympathies, he would reply coldly:
“I am not here to be corrected. You misunderstand poetry, and you misunderstand the world.”
- Some staff felt intimidated by his intellect—he could hold a conversation in multiple languages or quote Confucius while dismissing their authority.
6. Emotional Reactions
- Despite his wit, Pound felt some bitterness about being confined.
- He occasionally expressed frustration and impatience, saying confinement was an injustice, but he never acted violently.
- Letters to friends show a mix of resignation, defiance, and subtle mockery toward those who opposed release.
7. Impact on Staff
Pound’s behavior had a subtle effect:
- Some staff softened over time, realizing he was harmless and deeply cultured.
- Others maintained their skepticism but could not resist his charisma and theatricality.
- Visitors often commented that Pound turned hospital routines into a kind of literary theater, making staff opposition almost irrelevant in daily life.
Summary
Pound’s reactions to staff opposition combined:
- Awareness of their fears
- Wit and sardonic humor
- Strategic alliance-building
- Polite defiance and intellectual intimidation
- Occasional private bitterness
He was a master at managing perception: he could make staff believe he was harmless, while subtly asserting his independence and genius.
