Dennis Prager said if God revealed himself to us (as a man?) we’d lose respect for him. Well, what if the only way to see him was through the eyes of humility? Another word for humility is reality.
Some people want a God, a Messiah, on their terms, the way they want him. Not born in a manager and expiring on a cross. It’s simply unacceptable to their way of thinking and being.
It was also unacceptable for Lucifer, an exalted angel, to worship a man-God. Hence, his cry of rebellion “I will not serve!” – when shown a vision of the Christ child, or so it is said – became the first sin: pride.
Therefore, he was thrown the hell out of Heaven for his egoism. Perhaps the same haughtiness that gets you thrown the hell out of Heaven is the same vanity that keeps you from entering.
Humility, it seems, is a condition of faith…and salvation.
